For the last seven decades, Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie has entertained and moved audiences on Broadway with each new production. This time around, the stars have aligned in a magnificent new revival that you’ll have to see to believe! John Tiffany’s production of the Williams classic officially opens at Broadway’s Booth Theatre on September 26.
Two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones leads this cast as Amanda Wingfield alongside Celia Keenan-Bolger as Laura, Brian J. Smith as the Gentlemen Caller and film/TV star Zachary Quinto making his Broadway debut as Tom Wingfield. The quartet tackles Williams’ drama with help from scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Natasha Katz and sound designer Clive Goodwin.
The Glass Menagerie takes place in a small apartment inhabited by the Wingfield family: faded former Southern belle Amanda, who still clings to the past; restless, creative son Tom, who is unfulfilled in life and tethered to his roots; and shy, afflicted daughter Laura, who prefers to spend her time playing with her collection of glass animals in lieu of social interaction. The drama comes when Amanda, worried about Laura’s future, urges Tom to bring home a gentlemen caller for his sister.
